Faith Formation Registration

2017-2018 Faith Formation Registration Information

We seek to provide opportunities for all members of your family to deepen and share their faith within the parish community. Religious formation is about a relationship with Jesus Christ. It’s not simply learning “about” God and the church, but a time to introduce God and to experience God’s love through prayer, the Bible and liturgy, and community.

Faith Formation is offered for children who are 3 years old (by Sept. 1st & potty trained) through Adults. OLBH offers daycare for children under the age of 3 who have parents enrolled in the Adult classes, RCIA, or are a catechist/assistant. Our programs are as varied as the age groups we serve, please read through the descriptions of each program explained below:

SUNDAY FAITH FORMATION SESSIONS:

Sunday Mornings 10:30 am – 12:00 pm: Daycare, Pre-K -5th, Adult sessions, & RCIA *coffee and rolls are served before class

Sunday Afternoons 4:15 pm – 5:45 pm: Daycare, Pre-K -5th, MS, HS, & Adult sessions

Age Groups
Adults
Adult faith formation enables ongoing conversion to Jesus, promotes active membership in the Church, and prepares adults to be disciples in mission to the world. Adults meet on Sundays at the same time as the classes for children and youth. Please contact Joni Osnes, joni.osnes@olbh.org with any questions.
High School
The high school youth will focus on liturgical formation. This process will prepare the teens for participation in liturgical prayer and ritual, experiencing this prayer and ritual together, and then reflecting on that experience. Please contact the office, olbh@olbh.org, with any questions.
Middle School
The middle school resources engage current middle school culture and provide the youth with tools to grow in holiness and their relationship with Jesus Christ. The goal of this semester is to introduce the middle school youth to the Word that can and should be a part of their everyday life. The youth will have a better understanding of how Scripture relates to their lives and they will be equipped with tools that will help them to incorporate the Word into the issues they encounter every day. Please contact the office, olbh@olbh.org, with any questions.
Elementary
Our Lady of the Black Hills offers two different programs for your child’s Pre-K through 5th grade Faith Formation; Traditional Classroom Model and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. Both models are combined grade level classes. Classes are divided into:

  • Pre-K – Kindergarten (Pre-K must be three years old and potty trained as of September 1st )
  • 1st – 3rd
  • 4th – 5th
Traditional ClassroomCatechesis of the Good Shepherd

In the Traditional Classroom Model, children gather in a regular classroom setting. We use the Finding God curriculum. It is based on a spiral curriculum that integrates the fundamental themes of the Catechism of the Catholic Church with Scripture and Catholic Social Teaching. Please contact the office, olbh@olbh.org, with any questions.

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) Model is a Montessori-based approach to religious formation for children ages 3-12. This hands on approach is rooted in Sacred Scripture, liturgy, and respect for the child’s relationship with God. The children have the opportunity to work with the material and to ponder the mysteries of our Christian faith together with the catechist.

Due to the unique environment, the student capacity is limited to 10 children per session. Please contact the office, olbh@olbh.org, with any questions.
