The History of Lectio Divina

Lectio divina, a form of Scripture prayer, is an ancient art, at one time practiced by all Christians. It’s a slow praying of the Scriptures which enables the Bible to become a means of drawing us nearer to God. During the "dark ages," when the average person could not read or write, lectio divina was kept alive by the monasteries. The Benedictines are credited with continuing the practice.

Lectio divina is one of the most intimate forms of prayer because it is a direct communication between God and us. It teaches us about ourselves and God in the way it touches us.
